As you will find with all services such as TranAudio Recordings, there are limitations to the restoration and transfer of any sound media. We have tried to explain these in our FAQ pages. Below is a summary of defects with LP's, 45's and Cassettes that may be nearly impossible to eliminate.
1. Please do not submit any LP, 45rpm, or Cassette that is severely scratched, cracked, warped, water damaged, spliced etc.. Such audio media will have to be returned.
2. If your LP or 45 rpm skips on your turntable it will most likely skip on ours. There is no way to 100% restore sound with this defect. There will be a small blip where it exists. If this is unacceptable to you please do not submit.
3. A recording is only as good as the recording equipment, poor monitoring of the sound being recorded can be caused for distortion. If your LP, 45 rpm, or cassette is distorted, the transfer CD will also be distorted.
4. Some LP's have the center hole slightly off-center. These records will play with the pitch varying slightly at each revolution.
5. The most common noises we remove or diminish are scratches, crackles, pops. vinyl hiss, tape hiss, static noise, hum, clicks and ticks. If the scratch is very severe (the underlying music is gone for a considerable amount of time.) there will be a trace of a pop in the restored version. In cases where the noise is of equal or greater volume level than the source material, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to clean up without some auible side affects. In some cases it is more desirable to apply less severe processing, which may leave some occasional imperfections more audible. The restoration of the sound is our goal not to change it. We would like our customers to be aware of these trade-offs.
6. A special note for those who might consider having a label placed on your CD. Many of todays car CD players cannot handle the added thickness of the CD due to a label being placed on the them. Keep this in mind if you plan on playing your CD transfer at both home and automobile.
